Structured Activities under RSO (SDUs) Scheme - (w.e.f. 1 Janurary 2013, there will be changes for Confined Space Safety Assessors)
Under the WSH (Confined Spaces) Regulations 2009, “confined space” means any chamber, tank, manhole, vat, silo, pit, pipe, flue or other enclosed space, in which – dangerous gases, vapours or fumes are liable to be present to such an extent as to involve a risk of fire or explosion,…”
At the end of the course, the participant who passed the assessment would be competent and qualified to perform gas checks and tests in confined spaces before certifying safe entry for personnel to enter and work safely in confined spaces and manholes.
He will be known as a “Confined Space Safety Assessor” who is also competent to check and test manholes and any other confined spaces such as chamber, tank, manhole, vat, silo, pit, pipe, flue or other enclosed space, in which —
(a) dangerous gases, vapours or fumes are liable to be present to such an extent as to involve a risk of fire or explosion, or persons being overcome thereby;
(b) the supply of air is inadequate, or is likely to be reduced to be inadequate, for sustaining life; or
(c) there is a risk of engulfment by material.

Individual can opt to undertake the WSQ Specialist Diploma in Occupational Hygiene (SDOH) or choose selected units as modular training in accordance to needs.
The OH Professionals WSQ Framework consists of a single qualification, ie; the WSQ Specialist Diploma in Occupational Hygiene (OH).
Individuals must fulfil the followings in order to be awarded the WSQ Specialist Diploma in OH.
· All 8 Core Units;
· 2 Electives Units from Group 1; and
· 1 Elective Unit from Group 2.
Upon award of the SDOH, individuals will be recognised as competent to discharge the duties and responsibilities of an OH Officer.
Any company who is engaged to perform any works in confined spaces (including manholes) and require site personnel to check, test and certify entry into confined spaces (including manholes) will need their staff who meet the course entry requirements to attend and pass the “Confined Space Safety Assessors Course”.
• 36 Hours Lectures (Theory + Practical) + 3 Hours Assessment
(Notes: Participants must bring along safety shoes for the practical lesson throughout the duration of the course. Participants are also encouraged (but not compulsory) to bring their own gas meter for the practical lesson throught the duration of the course.)
Minimum Entry Qualification
Participants must have the followings:
(i) At least GCE 'O' Level Grade C6 & above for English, Maths & Science
(ii) ESS WPLN 5 OR 'N’ Level English and Maths Grade 5 WITH WSH Skills & Knowledge equivalent to Certificate in WSH
(iii) ESS WPLN 5 OR 'N’ Level English and Maths Grade 5 WITH 3 years of relevant working experience in operations and co-ordination of safety work (Proof of experience must be submitted together with application)
(iv) NTC2 in Chemical Processing

Only participants with 75% or higher attendance will be eligible to sit for the examination. Certificate will be awarded to participants who successfully complete the course and pass the examination.
However, ID passes can also be issued at $10.00 each (OPTIONAL) after collection of results. ID Pass will be ready in 2 weeks time upon submission of ID pass application form.
Skills Development Fund (SDF)
Company sponsored trainees who are Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident are eligible for SDF funding. To be eligible for the funding, companies are required to enroll their trainees through the SkillsConnect system.
"Upon completion of the course, please submit your claim(s) within 120 days from the course end date. The training grant and/or absentee payroll will be disbursed to your GIRO account (by WDA) as stated under your organisation's Profile in the SkillsConnect."

Medium of Instruction

A notice of replacement / postponement together with the full particulars of the new participant (for replacement) must be given to us AT LEAST 3 working days before the course commencement. A charge of S$10 (replacement) or S$30 (postponement) will be imposed on such changes.

A notice of cancellation must be given at least 3 working days before commencement of the course and 50% of course fee will be refunded. If notice is given less than 3 working days before the first day of the course, there will be no refund / course fees will be charged accordingly.
